Sometimes, spray visualization by means of high speed video can elucidate details of the spray dynamics that are only hinted at within the more quantitative data generated by the particle dynamics, flux density or spray impact instruments. The understanding of such spray features as recirculation cells, oscillations, pulsations, mixing regimes and boundary layer interactions can benefit from analysis of the high speed video images.

Our lab is equipped with two high speed video motion analysis systems providing video recording at rates up to 6000 frames per second.

The NAC HSV 200 is a two-camera color system delivering 46 minutes of recording at a frame rate of 200 fps. Shutter speed is variable from 1/1,000 to 1/10,000 seconds. 

The Kodak/Spin Physics EktaPro 1000 is a two-camera black and white system which is capable of up to 1000 fps in full-frame mode and up to 6000 fps in partial-frame mode. Recording times are limited to under 30 seconds at the highest frame rates. One of the cameras is an intensified imager, engineered for greater light sensitivity.
